About us

Hantverk & Found started life in 2015 as a simple seafood cafe serving fresh, local seafood with influences from around the globe.

Head chef Kate had spent many years as a chef in London, as well as working with community growing projects, contributing to cook books and as working as food projects coordinator for brain injury charity, Headway East London.

As more and more Asian influences crept into the H&F menu, Kate decided to go to Tokyo to learn how the Japanese treat fish with such simplicity and respect.

After completing training at the Tokyo Sushi Academy, lockdown persuaded us to move to our new menus in Spring of this year. Since then we have been serving take-away and eat in sushi on Fridays, along with bento and kaiseki style menus to eat here on Saturday.

Our Saturday evening menu is a humble form of kaiseki – the Japanese multi course meal. Our menu tries to balance the best of the seasons with textures and flavours that nourish in Winter and refresh in Summer, while we now have an extraordinary amount of Japanese ingredients available to us, we look first to our local surroundings and seasons. A sample menu is here.

Fridays are a more casual affair, with sushi and side dishes served a la carte. We offer nigiri, gunkan and sashimi alongside more western style rolls with Izakaya influenced snacks also in the mix and plenty of vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes. See our sample menu here.

On Saturday lunchtimes we serve a bento menu and usually sushi & sashimi sets too.

Kaiseki and bento menus offer vegetarian and vegan options on request and most dietary requirements can be catered for – please do let us know when booking.

Starting in May 2021 we are pleased to welcome chef Rachel O’Sullivan in residence with her Rakookoo project on Thursday evenings. Rachel will offer a revolving menu of South East Asian flavours to eat here - she also offers takeaway - please visit her Instagram for menus and more @rakookoo.
We are dog and child friendly, and have highchairs, although our menu may not look child friendly, if you let us know when you book we will work out something we hope they will find delicious and of course our prices are adjusted for younger diners.

Our Friends

Some of our suppliers are listed here – many of them offer great ingredients to cook with at home – check them out.

Our seafood comes mainly from Broadstairs’ excellent Fruit de Mer

We source many of our wines from Wines Under the Bonnet who have a great selection to order online.

We also get wine from our friends at Otros Vinos who specialise in mainly Spanish, natural wines.

Ancestrel Wines supply our new keg wine, and many other bottles.

We have worked with the granddaddies of natural wine in the UK, Les Caves de Pyrene, since we opened.

We are lucky to have such an abundance of great growers in Kent and Chegworth Valley is one of our favourites, especially for their fruit juices.

Our micro greens are grown for us in Ramsgate by Kent Urban Kitchen and much of our produce comes from the great team at Nash Farm.
